Doula TrainingBirth Central is delighted to be providing training for anybody who is passionate about birth, willing to learn, to be challenged and to develop themselves so that they can be available to “stay in the moment” with a birthing woman. Learn to come with a willingness to “hold the space” for women, their birth teams and babies during the birth process.
There is a growing request for trained birth companions to be present with women at the birth, some preparation in advance, and support in the home for the following few weeks.
The Birth Doula:This very special course makes the magic world of Birth Doulaing come alive. In 20 lessons, you will become aware of your core beliefs about birth and the way that can impact on you and your clients. You will learn how to become an outstanding doula and how to meet your own needs and the needs of your clients. You will discover how to help your clients to prepare for an empowering birth, understand what empowers or disempowers a birthing woman, and how to help her to bond deeply with her newborn baby. The lessons show you how to create a good working relationship with your clients. You will learn how to deal with difficult situations and how to support your clients through the first weeks after birth. To graduate from the Birth Doula course, trainees need to have:
Training will increase your knowledge of the natural process of birth, and the options offered to women both at home and in hospital. It will also improve your understanding of the needs of mother and baby. It will give you the means to distinguish between traditional myth and real opportunities, and the needs of mothers. This will be a turning point in your understanding of physical, emotional and spiritual issues of childbirth. You will receive weekly course material to work on at your own pace. Whilst we can’t encourage you enough to work on it weekly… it is for you to do as you feel able! Setting aside between 2-4 hours should cover the reading and homework! Many women go to the local library once per week to do their work! You post back your homework, and it will be returned to you as it is read and marked. There is no right or wrong answer mostly, just the opportunity for you to express your understanding of the pregnancy, labour and early parenting time!
